Watch: Joe Root goes on a reverse-scoop frenzy against Scott Boland

Joe Root smashed 16 runs off Scott Boland's first over of the 4th day at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
England batter Joe Root unleashed a flurry of reverse scoop shots when the hosts resumed their second innings on day 4 of the ongoing first Test of the Ashes 2023 against Australia being played at the Edgbaston ground.
England had declared their first innings on 393/8 with Joe Root scoring 118* and Zak Crawley (61) and Jonny Bairstow (78) contributing as well. In reply, Australia scored 386 runs in their first innings with Usman Khawaja hammering 141 and Travis Head and Alex Carey scoring half-centuries.
In their second innings on day 3, England started off well but then lost openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett for 27 runs on the board before rains caused the day to end.
When the England side resumed on Day 4, Joe Root and Ollie Pope began by taking the attack to the Australian team from the go.
Joe Root Hammers Scott Boland For A FOUR, SIX, And FOUR
Joe Root had shown intent in the first over itself against Pat Cummins, as he tried to reverse scoop him over the slips but failed to connect.
However, the connection proved to be good in the second over bowled by Scott Boland, as Joe Root repeatedly reversed scooped him for boundaries in the over, as he gathered 16 runs from the over. Root hit a four, then scooped Boland for a huge six right over the wicketkeeper’s head, who was standing up to the stumps.
Boland then ended up conceding a four as Root reverse scooped him, this time over the slips for a boundary as England’s lead crossed the 50-run mark.

Despite losing two wickets, Root and Pope have continued with the counterpunch, especially against Scott Boland.
Though rains managed to curtail the play on day 3, the weather prediction for day four will be around 20 degrees Celsius and could go down to 15 degrees Celsius in the night. There are no chances of rain on day 4.
