Jofra Archer was not part of the initial shortlist for the IPL 2025 mega auction.

After being left out of the initial shortlist, Jofra Archer has been added to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction player list by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Archer, who had a rough last three years as he dealt with multiple long-term injuries, made a successful return to international cricket earlier this year in the limited-overs series against Australia and then featured against the West Indies.

Archer will enter the mega auction at the base price of INR 2 crores. His availability in the auction will give more option to the franchises who will look to acquire the services of the England fast bowler.

Jofra Archer back in the IPL mega auction

The BCCI has confirmed Archer’s availability for the full IPL 2025 season as well as for the next two seasons. Placed at No. 575 in the auction register, Jofra’s name will come up during the accelerated process after the first 116 players are bid upon.

Archer has placed himself in the INR 2 crore bracket, which is the highest base price category. Along with Archer, two other names have been added to the register – USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar and Mumbai’s Hardik Tamore.

Archer was initially part of the auction list but was excluded from the final shortlist, reportedly due to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) denying him a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The board wanted to manage his workload ahead of next year’s Ashes tour. However, now the ECB has allowed Archer to feature in the biggest T20 tournament in the world.

The ECB has submitted a list of 18 centrally contracted players who will be available for the next three IPL seasons. The board has clarified that a few of these players will be out of contract at some time during the cycle but while they are contracted they will be available to participate in the IPL.

England’s non-centrally contracted players will be fully available for the full cycle. Notably, England’s test captain Ben Stokes is not on the ECB’s list of 18 players available for the IPL.
