Jofra Archer has been included in England’s playing XI for third test against India at the Lord’s.
England, on Wednesday, July 9, named their playing XI for the third test against Indian Cricket Team, which will commence on July 10 at the Lord’s. England made one change to their XI from the last game as they included Jofra Archer and replaced him with Josh Tongue in the side.
The right-arm pacer has played 13 tests for England so far. He will return to the playing XI after a long gap as he played his last test for the Three Lions against India in February 2021. Since then, due to multiple injuries and surgeries couldn’t represent England in whites.
In May 2022, Archer was diagnosed with a stress fracture on his lower back and was ruled out of the entire season. In 2023, he was again ruled out due to the recurrence of his elbow injury. In 2024, he played in ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and later played in ICC Champions Trophy 2025 early this year.

Notably, Archer has returned to England playing XI in test cricket after 1596 days. Last month, he proved his fitness by playing for Sussex in County Championship 2025. Archer was added to England squad ahead of the second test. However, he was not part of the playing XI in the second test at Edgbaston.
While Archer has returned to England playing XI for the Lord’s test, Jasprit Bumrah will be back in India’s playing XI after missing the previous game. Archer will lead England’s pace attack in the Lord’s test along with Chris Woakes.
Meanwhile, the five-match test series between India and England is currently tied 1-1. England won the opening test by five wickets. They chased down a 371-run target in the match. In the second test, India made a comeback by winning the encounter by 336 runs.
