Jofra Archer ruled out of West Indies ODI series due to thumb injury

Luke Wood has replaced Jofra Archer in England squad.
England pacer Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. Archer has sustained an injury to his right thumb. He will undergo treatment for his injury under England’s medical team.
England Cricket Team will face West Indies in three ODI games at home. The first ODI will take place on May 29 at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The second ODI will take place at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on June 1. The ODI series will conclude with the third ODI at Kennington Oval, London on June 3.
The West Indies tour of England 2025 will also observe a three-match T20I series after the conclusion of the ODI series. Harry Brook, the new white-ball skipper of England, will lead the England team during both the series.
Luke Wood replaces Jofra Archer in England’s ODI squad
Left-arm pacer Luke Wood has replaced Archer in England’s ODI squad. The 29-year-old has played two ODIs and five T20Is for England so far. Wood made his international debut in September 2022. Below is England’s updated squad for ODI series against West Indies.
England’s squad for West Indies ODI series- Harry Brook (C), Gus Atkinson, Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, Jos Buttler, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Saqib Mahmood, Jamie Overton, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Luke Wood.
Meanwhile, Archer was part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. However, the right-arm pacer returned to England after IPL 2025 was suspended for a week by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Later, he did not rejoin the RR camp after the tournament was resumed.
Archer clinched 11 wickets in 12 games for RR at an economy of 9.47. The right-arm pacer finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker for RR with Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana. RR failed to qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2025.
