Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley had an altercation towards end of day three of the Lord’s test.
Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott took a dig at Virat Kohli after the verbal altercation between Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley on day three of the ongoing Lord’s test. The Indian Cricket Team and the England Cricket Team are locking horns in the third game of the five-match series.
Towards the end of day three, England opener Crawley called the team physio on the field during Jasprit Bumrah’s over. However, Gill felt that he was deliberately wasting time. Hence, he engaged in a verbal altercation with him.
When Crawley signalled towards the team physio, Indian players also sarcastically clapped to mock the England opener. The last over drama became a talking point of the match, and videos of the moment went viral on social media.
I don’t like the acting from Shubman Gill – Jonathan Trott
Cricketer-turned-commentator Trott slammed Gill for his behaviour against Crawley. While speaking on Jio Cinema, he said that he didn’t like Gill’s acting. Trott also added that Gill’s aggressive behaviour reminded him of a previous Indian skipper, taking a dig at Virat Kohli.
“We don’t know what went on when England were fielding, whether they were dishing it out. But I don’t like the acting from Shubman Gill. As a captain, you set the tone,” he said.
“Pointing fingers and getting very confrontational, very much like a previous captain before getting in the face of the opposition. I am all for being competitive and being tough on the field, but sometimes you have to rise above it. It sets up nicely for tomorrow’s play,” he added.
Notably, Kohli was known for his aggressive captaincy on the field. The Virat Kohli-led side defeated England at the Lord’s in the 2021 series, and it is one of the most heated test clashes between the teams.
Talking about the ongoing Lord’s test, England finished at 2/0 in the second innings at the stumps of day three. Earlier, India piled up 387 runs on the scoreboard in their first innings with a century by KL Rahul (100) and half-centuries by Rishabh Pant (74) and Ravindra Jadeja (72).
Opting to bat first, England were also bowled out for 387 runs. Joe Root (104) slammed a ton while Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56) scored crucial fifties. Jasprit Bumrah bagged a five-wicket haul for India.
