ACB retain Jonathan Trott as Afghanistan head coach for 2024

Afghanistan did magnificently well under Jonathan Trott at the World Cup 2023.
Afghanistan had a stellar campaign at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. Afghanistan defeated Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England and Netherlands. They came very close to registering themselves in the top-four spots and also challenged giants like Australia and South Africa in the league games. A major share of credit for this was given to head coach Jonathan Trott.
The Afghanistan Cricket Board decided to extend the contract of Jonathan Trott and he’s been retained as the head coach for the calendar year 2024. Trott has been rewarded for his excellent work and Afghanistan also showed massive growth in his tenure as the head coach. Trott’s tenure ended last month, but the ACB has taken a big decision to retain him.
Jonathann Trott retained as coach
Former English top-order batter Jonathan Trott joined the Afghanistan camp in July 2022 and he was initially given an 18-month long contract. During this period, Afghanistan played two ICC events and had a terrific campaign in the latest one. The team also had a decent Asia Cup 2023 tournament and almost qualified for the Super 4s round.
Afghanistan did well in the Asia Cup 2022 which was played in the UAE in the T20 format and defeated Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the group phase. Afghanistan also got their first-ever ODI series win against Bangladesh and went on to win the T20I series against Pakistan earlier in 2023. They are currently playing a three-match T20I series against the UAE.
Afghanistan lost the second T20I of the ongoing three-match series against the UAE. After the series, Jonathan Trott has a big challenge to deal with. Afghanistan will be travelling to India for a three-match T20I series starting from 11th January at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. Afghanistan have also qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in West Indies and the USA.
