IPL 2025: Jos Buttler, Gerald Coetzee to rejoin GT camp ahead of tournament resumption

Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee left India after IPL 2025 was suspended by the BCCI.
Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will resume on May 17, and all the remaining matches will be played. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) suspended IPL 2025 for a week on May 9 amid security concerns following border disputes between India and Pakistan. However, BCCI announced on Monday (May 12) that the tournament will resume on May 17.
As IPL 2025 was suspended, many foreign players part of the league travelled back to their home countries. England batsman Jos Buttler and South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee from Gujarat Titans (GT) also flew back to their home country. However, both of them are set to rejoin the squad before the tournament restarts. Buttler and Coetzee will join the GT squad on May 14.
Interestingly, Buttler and Coetzee were the only two foreign players who left the GT squad. Their other four overseas members, Rashid Khan, Sherfane Rutherford, Kagiso Rabada, and Karim Janat, stayed back in India. Hence, GT will have their full squad strength once IPL 2025 restarts.
Jos Buttler to miss IPL 2025 playoffs
Notably, Buttler is set to miss the IPL 2025 playoffs as he has been named for England’s forthcoming ODI series against the West Indies. England and the West Indies will clash in three ODIs from May 29 to June 3. As per the revised schedule, the IPL 2025 playoffs will also begin on May 29 with the Qualifier 1 match.
The final will now take place on June 3. Hence, GT will be short of Buttler towards the end of the tournament. Another GT overseas player, Sherfane Rutherford, has been named in the West Indies ODI squad against England. Therefore, he will also miss the playoffs and the final.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill-led GT are the most successful team in IPL 2025 as of now. The IPL 2022 champions steal the top spot in the points table with 16 points. They need just one more victory out of three games to seal playoffs’ berth. They will face Delhi Capitals (DC), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the last three games in the league stage.
