Josh Hazlewood was ruled out of the Perth test due to a hamstring injury.

Australian Cricket Team pacer Josh Hazlewood is likely to miss all five matches of the ongoing The Ashes 2025-26 against England Cricket Team, according to a report by Fox Cricket. The right-arm pacer was not part of the first test at Optus Stadium in Perth, which Australia won within two days.

Ahead of the Perth test, Hazlewood sustained a hamstring injury while playing for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield 2025-26. The initial scans suggested nothing serious but follow-up imaging confirmed a hamstring injury. As a result, he was ruled out of the Perth test just a few days ahead of the clash, which came as a big blow for Australia.

Both Hazlewood and Sean Abbott suffered hamstring injuries in the Sheffield Shield 2025-26 and were ruled out of the opening game. Brendan Doggett made his international debut in Perth and was the third pacer alongside Starc and Scott Boland.

While Hazlewood was expected to be back in the second test at The Gabba, latest reports suggest that he is likely to be ruled out of the entire Ashes campaign. Veteran Australian journalist of Cricket Et, Peter Lalor, stated that Hazelwood’s situation may be more serious than initially believed.

“If these whispers I’m hearing about Hazlewood are right, we’re not gonna see him again for the rest of the series if the worst comes to fruition,” Lalor stated while speaking on Cricket 7.

On Sunday, Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) journalist Tom Morris also tweeted that Hazlewood might miss the remainder of The Ashes 2025-26.

“There’s significant concerns around Josh Hazlewood’s availability beyond Brisbane. Good judges say the hamstring is worse than first thought. Nobody can say with any certainty that he will play at all this series,” he wrote on X.

Notably, Australia also missed captain Pat Cummins in the first test, with Steve Smith leading the side in his absence. Mitchell Starc led Australia’s pace attack, clinching a 10-wicket haul in the match to win the Player of the Match award.

Speaking about the Perth test, Australia outplayed England by eight wickets to gain a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Opting to bat first, England were bowled out for 172 runs in the first innings. However, they bounced back strong with the ball, bundling out Australia for 132 runs, gaining a lead of 40 runs.

In the second innings, England’s batters lost their wickets like a house of cards, getting bowled out for just 164 runs and setting a target of 205 runs for the hosts. Travis Head (123) hammered a match-winning century to propel Australia to victory like a walk in the park. The second test between both sides will commence on December 4 at The Gabba, Brisbane.
