Big blow for England! Josh Tongue suffers injury ahead of first test against India - Reports

The England Cricket Team and the Indian Cricket Team are gearing up for an upcoming test series. Ahead of the campaign, England Lions and India A are locking horns in an unofficial test series. The second test between the teams is underway at the County Ground in Northampton.
During the encounter, England Lions pacer Josh Tongue, as per the various media reports, faced an injury and walked off the field on day three of the match. This comes as a big blow for England as Tongue is also part of their squad for the first test match against India. This now raises concerns over his availability for the match.
England recently announced a 14-member squad led by skipper Ben Stokes for the first test against India. The encounter will commence on July 20 at Headingley in Leeds and will kickstart the five-match test series between both sides.
Josh Tongue picked two wickets for England Lions
Josh Tongue picked up two wickets for England Lions in the first innings. However, he was quite expensive with the ball. He leaked 91 runs in the first innings across his 20.3 overs. In the second innings, he went wicketless and conceded 27 runs across his four-over spell.
The 27-year-old has played three tests for England in the past. He made his international debut in June 2023 against Ireland and has scalped 12 wickets in his career so far, including a five-wicket haul in an innings.
Meanwhile, India A team have gained a 184 runs lead in the ongoing second unofficial test at the stumps of day three. Asked to bat first, they piled up a total of 348 runs in the first innings with KL Rahul slamming a magnificent century.
Later, Khaleel Ahmed’s four-wicket haul helped them end England Lions’ innings for 327. At the end of day three, India A reached 163-4 on the scoreboard. The first unofficial test between both sides ended in a draw.
