Kane Williamson overtakes Stephen Fleming to become New Zealand's highest run-scorer in ICC Cricket World Cup

Kane Williamson is back in the team against Pakistan in Bangalore.

The game between Pakistan and New Zealand is underway at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. It is a must-win game for both teams, who are fighting for a place in the semi-finals. It started with Pakistan winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. Kane Williamson was back on the side after missing a number of games due to injury. New Zealand made two changes, with Ish Sodhi also coming back into the side.

New Zealand started well with a 68-run opening stand in 10.5 overs. Devon Conway was the first batter to get out, making 35 off 39 balls with six boundaries in them. His wicket brought Kane Williamson to the crease, and since then, New Zealand have not lost a wicket, and both batters are nearing their respective hundreds.

With New Zealand suffering so many injuries to their key players, Kane Williamson made his comeback into the playing XI, and Will Young had to sit out. Kiwi skipper looks at his absolute best, and it didn’t look like he missed out these many games. Williamson brought up his 44th ODI half-century off just 49 balls and carried his innings together for a big knock.

Williamson got out just five runs short of what could be an incredible World Cup hundred. He made 95 runs off just 79 balls, including two sixes and ten fours. Kiwi captain added a 180-run stand with Ravindra. During his innings, Kane Williamson also became the highest run-scorer for his country at the ICC Cricket World Cup.

He went past former Kiwi captain Stephen Fleming and now has the most World Cup runs for New Zealand. Williamson has scored 1084 runs in 24 innings at an average of 63.76 with two hundred and five half-centuries, while Fleming has scored 1075 runs in 33 innings at an average of 35.83.
