Kane Williamson to be included in New Zealand's World Cup 2023 squad, even if he misses some games - Reports
Kane Williamson got injured in his debut game for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023.
As New Zealand announced their squad for the upcoming England tour, Kane Williamson found no place. Williamson is still recovering from an ACL injury he sustained in the opening game of the IPL 2023. The recovery time from this injury is about 9–12 months, but New Zealand Coach Gary Stead is hopeful of Kane Williamson making it into the World Cup 2023 even though he missed some games. Kane Williamson looks in great condition, as he posted a video of him batting in the nets last week. Williamson will be a key member of the Blackcaps squad, and his selection will have a crucial positive and negative impact on the group.
NZ hopeful of Kane Williamson’s comeback
New Zealand coach Gary Stead is hopeful that Williamson will be part of the Blackcaps squad even if he misses out on a few initial games. The NZ Coach said, “I think that’s something we are talking about at the moment. If it’s the knockout stages, I think that might be too late because you are really saying something that you may or may not even be there, but if it was earlier in the World Cup, we’d definitely be considering it.” Gary Stead also said that medical advice and his comfort levels will also be critical in any decision-making process.
New Zealand coach looks concerned about the team’s full-time captain Kane Williamson’s injury and expresses that they need to be careful about it. Gary Stead said, “Obviously, with the knee and the way it is, we have to be careful with how that twists, so he’s still in that healing and rehab phase, so it’s getting that fine balance between pushing him as far as he can go but making sure we don’t cross that line and do more damage.” Williamson is still taking throwdowns in his batting nets and has yet to face a bowler.
Kane Williamson got injured in the opening game of the IPL 2023 while making his debut for the Gujarat Titans when he landed awkwardly on the ground while attempting a save. Gary Stead said, “Again, it’s too early to know. Kane is working very much on a day-by-day, week-by-week process, and we’ve been really clear and careful with him that we don’t look too far and get expectations too big or not big enough at times.” Gary Stead also accepts the fact that the recovery from an ACL injury takes a lot of time and can be difficult at times.
