Kapil Dev was the first Indian captain to lift the Cricket World Cup for India in 1983.

Just like the 2011 Cricket World Cup, Team India are among the hot favourites to win the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup in October-November. In the last three instances since 2011, host nations used the home advantage nicely and got their hands on cricket's most coveted title.

After 2011 in 2015, Australia became the champions playing the final on their home turf Melbourne Cricket Club. Next in 2019, England won the title defeating New Zealand in a controversial final. India's 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev said that India should take the home ground pressure to win the championship.

India’s first-ever World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev said, “I don’t know how it will pan out. They are yet to announce the team for the World Cup. India will always enter a tournament as favourites as it has been the case for a long time. It’s all about how the team comes to terms with the expectations from all sides. We have won a World Cup at home, and I am sure the team, whoever gets selected, can do it again. A World Cup is coming in four years, and I hope the players will be fully prepared”

It will be the first time in the history of the World Cup that West Indies will be missing out. The two-time champions failed to qualify for the main event after losing to Scotland, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, and Netherlands in World Cup qualifiers. Kapil Dev also shared his disappointment and said, “It is painful to see the West Indies not playing in the World Cup. It is tough to imagine an ODI tournament without them. They have produced such great players. I don't know what is hurting them now but, hopefully, they will make a comeback”.
