Kapil Dev reacts to BCCI's strict family verdict after Virat Kohli's stance

Virat Kohli had criticized BCCI’s “no family” diktat.
Following Virat Kohli‘s recent criticism of the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) 10-point diktat former Indian captain Kapil Dev has joined the debate and come out in support of the Indian star.
Earlier, BCCI issued a strict 10-point diktat for Indian players after their defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The BCCI mandated that families can stay with players for only two weeks on tours longer than 45 days.
Virat recently criticized the policy, emphasizing the importance of having families around during hectic international tours. The Delhi batter expressed his disappointment, stating that people do not understand the significance of having close ones around.
“It is difficult to explain to people how grounding it is to come back to your family whenever there’s something intense happening on the outside. I don’t think people have an understanding of what value it brings. I feel quite disappointed about that.” Virat said at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit.

Speaking on the issue Kapil Dev said it is an individual choice while emphasizing the need for a more balanced approach for cricketers.
He added, “Well, I don’t know, that’s individual. I think it’s the cricket board’s call. My view is, yes, you need family. But you also need a team, all the time.“
“In our time, we used to say to ourselves, not by the cricket board, that the first half of the tour should be cricket, and in the second half, the family should come and enjoy it too. It should be a blend.“
After the completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Indian team is scheduled to tour England for a five-match test series starting from June 20.
