Karun Nair to return to Karnataka for 2025-26 domestic season

Karun Nair was part of Vidarbha in the previous domestic season.

Indian batter Karun Nair is all set to return to his home team Karnataka for the 2025-26 domestic season. Nair left Karnataka and represented Vidarbha in Indian domestic circuit for the last two seasons. However, he has received a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Vidarbha Cricket Association to return to his home team Karnataka.

Notably, Nair helped Vidarbha win the Ranji Trophy title in 2024-25 season. Vidarbha won the tournament after defeating Kerala in the final. Nair slammed 863 runs in nine games at an average of 53.94. He hammered four centuries in the tournament, including a match-winning ton in the final against Kerala.

After his brilliant performance for Vidarbha in domestic cricket, Nair also made a return to India’s test team. Notably, the right-handed batsman made his comeback in whites after a gap of eight years. He was part of India’s playing XI in the first three tests against England.

Karun Nair failed to impress on his test comeback

Notably, Nair has failed to impress with his batting in the ongoing test series against England. He has scored 131 runs across six innings at a poor average of 21.83. The right-handed batsman has also failed to score a half-century.

Ahead of India’s tour of England 2025, Nair hammered a double century for India A in the unofficial test series against England Lions. However, he struggled to replicate his form in the test series against England.

Meanwhile, India are gearing up for the fourth test against England, scheduled to commence on July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Nair’s place in the playing XI is doubtful after his back-to-back failures in the first three games.

Many cricket experts have backed Sai Sudharsan to be included in the playing XI instead of Nair. Indian cricket fans have also slammed Nair on social media for his failure with the bat in the ongoing series.

Meanwhile, Manchester test is a must-win game for India. England lead the series 2-1 and need one more victory to seal the series. On the other hand, India have never defeated England in a test match in Manchester.
