“Most complete opening batter in T20 cricket”- Kevin Pietersen in awe of Abhishek Sharma’s destruction in T20Is

Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has come up with massive praise for the Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma for his exploits in T20I cricket. He called the young batter the most complete opener in the shortest format of the game.
Kevin Pietersen’s comments came after Abhishek Sharma won Player of the Series in the T20I series against the Australian Cricket Team. The left-hander, who won Player of the Tournament in Asia Cup 2025, oozed his class in tough Australian conditions as well.
Abhishek Sharma, who opened for India in the T20I series, provided his team with fiery starts in almost all the games. He took on the Australian bowlers and ended up as the leading run-getter in the five-match series.

Abhishek’s best came in the second T20I at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne. While others struggled to get going, he slammed a sensational half-century and ended up playing an innings of 68 runs in 37 balls. His knock powered the team to 125 from 49/5.
Overall in the series, Abhishek slammed 163 runs in the five games at a strike rate of over 161 and an average of 40. This was his second successive Player of the Series award, having ended as the highest run-getter in Asia Cup 2025 as well.
Lauding Abhishek Sharma’s heroics, Kevin Pietersen said that he is not surprised by the India batter winning back-to-back Player of the Series awards. He also called him a fearless, courageous and talented player. Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account, he said:
“Not surprised at all by this. Abhishek is the most complete opening batter in T20 cricket. Fearless, courageous and talented!”
