Khaleel Ahmed played a great role for CSK with ball in IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have suffered a big setback in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as are trying to build momentum after a mixed start. The team lost their first three games but made a strong comeback after that, winning next two games to take the 8th position at the IPL 2026 Points Table.
Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, as per the reports in India Today, has been ruled out of the tournament. The news comes at a crucial time in the season. He was an important part of CSK’s bowling attack this season.
The team depended on him for early wickets in the powerplay. He played all five matches so far, and his role was to control runs and break partnerships at key moments.
Khaleel getting ruled out has created a big problem for CSK’s pace unit. The team is already dealing with multiple concerns. Nathan Ellis is injured while Matt Henry is struggling for form. Spencer Johnson has not yet joined the squad. This leaves the bowling attack thin and under pressure.
Khaleel Ahmed ruled out of IPL 2026 with Grade 2 quadriceps tear

The injury has now forced Ahmed out for the rest of the season. The reports claimed that he has sustained a Grade 2 quadriceps tear. He will need 10 to 12 weeks to recover fully. This means CSK will have to find a replacement quickly as the tournament moves forward.
Before his injury, Khaleel had delivered steady performances. He bowled with control and gave good starts in matches. In IPL 2026, he bowled 16.5 overs and conceded 146 runs. He picked up two wickets. Though the numbers are modest, his impact in key phases was valuable.
The injury happened during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 14. Khaleel felt pain in his right thigh while bowling. He tried to continue but had to walk off the field. He could not complete his over. This moment raised immediate concern among team staff.
CSK may now look at Mukesh Choudhary if he is fit. Ramakrishna Ghosh is another option as a pace-bowling all-rounder. It is yet to be seen who replaces Khaleel when CSK face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 18 in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is also not fully fit. The 44-year-old is expected to return for the match against Mumbai Indians on April 23.
