The first match of IPL 2025 KKR vs RCB, will take place at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
The much-awaited 18th edition of the world’s biggest franchise cricket league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), will begin on Saturday, March 22, in Kolkata.
The excitement for IPL 2025 has been further heightened by the drastic squad changes across all 10 teams following the mega auction. While most teams chose to retain their core, Punjab Kings (PBKS) opted for a complete squad revamp.
The opening game of the tournament will see Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) face Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). KKR ended their 10-year trophy drought last season by winning their third IPL title, while RCB remain one of the three teams who are yet to win the title despite playing in all editions.
KKR’s strength lies in their strong spin department, featuring international stars Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine. The franchise also boasts reliable finishers down the order in Rinku Singh and Andre Russell.
RCB, on the other hand, have strengthened their squad with premier fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar while replacing Faf du Plessis with Phil Salt to partner Virat Kohli at the top.
Both teams will be led by new captains in IPL 2025 – Ajinkya Rahane (KKR) and Rajat Patidar (RCB).
However, before the start of IPL 2025, the tournament has been hit with a bad news as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an “Orange Alert” in Kolkata ahead of the tournament opener, which will be played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens stadium.
