KL Rahul scored an unbeaten 97 runs against Australia in Chennai.

India won their opening game of ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Australia in Chennai after a few hiccups at the start of their 200 chase. Virat Kohli (85) and KL Rahul’s 165 runs stand for the 4th wicket helped India get two points from the game and once again these two batters testified themselves as a great chaser in ODI cricket. Virat Kohli scored 85 and Rahul played a magnificent knock of unbeaten 97 runs in 115 balls against the Aussie bowling attack.

Disappointed KL Rahul!

Despite playing a marvelous winning shot for a six, KL Rahul was a little disappointed. The disappointment was visible on his face as the ball landed over the fence for a six. Rahul sat down in a little despair as he missed a well-deserved 7th ODI ton by just 3 runs. Rahul wanted the ball to land inside the rope and go for a four that would have given him another attempt to smash a six and also complete his 7th ODI hundred.

Rahul explains the reason:

Rahul’s splendid effort along with Virat Kohli didn’t let India feel the pressure even after losing their first three batters going out without scoring. Talking about his disappointment Rahul said that he had calculated the equation, “I hit it too well, I just calculated how to get to a 100 in the end. The only way was for a 4 and then a six. But no qualms about not getting 100. Hopefully some other night.”

KL Rahul scored 97 runs in 115 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes in his innings. He came out when India lost their first three wickets inside the first three overs and all of them went back without scoring any runs. From there, KL Rahul along with Virat Kohli took the charge and steered the Indian innings towards the target. Virat Kohli scored 85 runs in 116 balls with only 6 fours in his innings.

Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s partnership was purely based on rotating strikes. Australia posted 199 runs on the board as Indian spinners rattled their middle order. Ravindra Jadeja picked up 3 wickets. India will be next playing against Afghanistan at Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi on 11th October. Australia will play their next match against South Africa in Lucknow on 12th October.
