KL Rahul starts batting in the nets
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been in rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy for the last few months. Both Iyer and Rahul are in the Indian team for the Asia Cup 2023 to boost India’s middle-order strength. Rahul is expected to be fit before India’s opening game against Pakistan at Pallekele Stadium in Kandy on September 2. Rahul’s practice session suggests his improvement from the injury. He still has almost a week to get himself ready for the big tournament. Sanju Samson will be travelling with the Indian team as reserve to get included in the main Squad in case Rahul doesn’t get fit or has an injury issue anymore.
Along with Rahul, other Indian players also had an extensive session in their conditioning camp at Alur in Karnataka. Indian team management called 15 fast bowlers from around the country to have a session with a selected bunch of players for the Asia Cup. Umran Malik, Yash Dayal, and several others have been called on to make team India ready for the upcoming big event. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shubman Gill also had batting sessions against spinners. Sai Kishore and Kuldeep Yadav had bowled long spell against these guys.
Rahul will be taking up the role of wicket-keeper in the Indian team for the next three months. Rahul has recovered from his calf injury, but during his rehabilitation, he got a niggle and is now recovering from that injury. Selectors will have a close look at India’s two league games in the Asia Cup 2023 and then meet on September 5 to decide on the best 15 names going on a mission in October and November. Rahul’s persistent injury problem has created a lot of problems for team India in the past.
