KL Rahul to miss out games against Pakistan and Nepal in Asia Cup 2023.

KL Rahul, India’s ace batter and keeper, will miss the first two Asia Cup 2023 matches against Pakistan and Nepal, India coach Rahul Dravid confirmed in a press-conference ahead of the commencement of Asia Cup 2023.

Indian team is currently in Alur, Karnataka, undergoing a six-day training and fitness camp before flying to Sri Lanka on August 30th for Asia Cup.

Indian players are working out in the nets and practicing matches for the continental competition. Rahul was observed practicing his wicket-keeping skills while also batting. The players took a Yo-Yo test on the opening day of camp on Thursday, which was all about fitness evaluations. Rahul was seen doing some short wicket-keeping practice on Day 3 and batted on Day 2.

KL Rahul will not be available for the first two matches in Asia Cup 2023: Rahul Dravid

Rahul was named in India’s Asia Cup squad along with Shreyas Iyer, both of them returned from injuries. While Shreyas Iyer had suffered from back issues since March 2023 and had to undergo surgery, Rahul had suffered a hamstring injury during the IPL 2023 tournament while playing for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

Rahul Dravid, the India coach, confirmed that Rahul’s fresh niggle will keep him out of both the first two matches in Asia Cup. Men in Blue are set to play Pakistan on September 2, followed by a game against Nepal on September 4.

“KL Rahul is progressing really well but will not be available for India’s first two matches—against Pakistan and Nepal—of the Asia Cup 2023,” Dravid said in a press conference.

He further added that Rahul will be reassessed on September 4 before the super four stage of the tournament (if India qualifies).

“The NCA will be looking after him for the next few days while we are traveling.” We will reassess on September 4 and then take it from there. Signs are looking good, and he is progressing really well,” Dravid added.

India will fly to Sri Lanka on August 30 for the Asia Cup tournament.
