Indian cricketer Virat Kohli lauded Shubman Gill after his marvellous batting performance in the ongoing second test against England. The second test between England Cricket Team and Indian Cricket Team is underway at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Indian captain Gill has broken multiple batting records in the Edgbaston test with his spectacular knocks in both innings. In the first innings, he slammed a 269-run knock to power India to a gigantic total of 587/10.
In the second innings, the right-handed batsman returned with another century, scoring 161 runs off 162 deliveries. With his knock, the visitors declared their innings at 427/6 and set a huge target of 608 runs for England in the second innings.

After watching Gill’s memorable batting show in the Edgbaston test, Kohli shared a story on Instagram to heap praise on the Indian skipper. Kohli shared a photo of Gill celebrating his century from the game and wrote, “Well played, star boy. Rewriting history. Onwards and upwards from here. You deserve all of this.”

Notably, Kohli announced his retirement from test cricket in May ahead of India’s tour of England 2025. His retirement came just a few days after Rohit Sharma retired from tests. However, both players will continue to play ODI cricket for India.
Meanwhile, with his 269-run knock in the first innings, Gill broke Kohli’s record for highest score by an Indian captain in tests. He also registered highest test score by an Indian batsman in England. With 430 runs across both innings in the Edgbaston test, Gill has scripted the record for the most runs scored by an Indian batsman in a test match.
Talking about the match, England are at 72/3 in the second innings at the stumps of day 4 in the Edgbaston test. They need 536 more runs to victory, while India need seven wickets to win the encounter.
