Kris Srikkanth thrashed Gautam Gambhir for too much chopping and changing.

After South Africa took control of the second test in Guwahati, former India captain and ex-chief selector Kris Srikkanth launched a fresh attack on India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, accusing him of making inconsistent team decisions.

With a commanding performance over the first three days, the tourists, who had already won the opening test in Kolkata, tightened their grip on the series.

The latest in a protracted conflict between Srikkanth and the Indian coach are his remarks. In the past, he called pacer Harshit Rana a “yes man to Gambhir,” which led Gambhir to denounce the remarks as “shameful.”

Srikkanth criticized Gambhir for his “chop-and-change” strategy and questioned several of India’s test choices.

Why isn’t Axar Patel playing? Was he unfit? He has been consistent at all levels. Why so much chopping and changing? Every alternate match someone is making a debut. They can call it trial and error. Gautam Gambhir can say whatever he wants—I don’t care. I have been a former captain and a former chairman of selectors. I know what I’m talking about,” Srikkanth said on his YouTube channel.

Srikkanth went on to criticize the entire Indian effort in Guwahati, expressing surprise that South Africa’s spin and pace attack took a ton of wickets on the same pitch that India’s players referred to as a “road”.

He sharply contrasted Harmer’s traditional spin method with that of India’s own spinners while praising it.

I don’t understand. Kuldeep Yadav said nothing was happening on the pitch. Then today we see Indians edging to slips against Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj and also getting out to bouncers from Marco Jansen—five wickets to short balls on a supposed ‘road.’ Harmer loops it up and flights the ball. Our spinners fire it flat,” Srikkanth said.

The former India opener also criticized the batting unit, which included skipper Rishabh Pant. Pant charged down the track in an attempt to slog Jansen, but he was easily caught behind the stumps.

“They will say it’s his natural game, but he is the captain. Shouldn’t he see the match situation?” Srikkanth added.

“Wrong selection policies; you need consistency,” he concluded.

Meanwhile, South Africa set a huge 549 runs to win the Guwahati test as they declared their second innings on 260/5.
