Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Shai Hope for 26 runs in the first innings.
The first of the two-match test series between Indian Cricket Team and West Indies Cricket Team kicked off on Thursday, October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Visiting skipper Roston Chase won the toss and opted to bat first on a track that looked green and offered help to bowlers.
However, his decision backfired as the West Indies faced a significant blow in the first session on day 1, losing five wickets. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah made the new ball talk and picked wickets quickly.
Just at the stroke of lunch, Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav also joined the wickets column and dismissed Shai Hope with an unbelievable delivery. The left-arm spinner bowled a flighted delivery that was pitched outside off. As Hope attempted to play a drive, the ball turned inside and hit his off-stump. Hope was left amused as Indian players celebrated his wicket.

The left-arm spinner has made a fabulous comeback in the test team. In the test tour of England earlier this year, Kuldeep was part of the squad but was not picked in the playing XI in any of the five games. His snub saw Indian management facing a lot of criticism. However now, it will be a great opportunity for him to seal a place in the team.
Recently, Kuldeep showed a wonderful form in Asia Cup 2025. With 17 wickets in seven matches, he finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament and also was adjudged as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) for his standout performance in the tournament.
Speaking about the ongoing test, the visitors lost five wickets for 90 runs ahead of lunch on day 1. Siraj clinched three wickets to dismantle West Indiesâ top order, getting the crucial wickets of Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0), Alick Athanaze (12), and Brandon King (13).
Meanwhile, India have picked a combination of two pacers, one spinner, and three all-rounders in their playing XI. Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy are the three all-rounders in the team.
