Kulwant Khejroliya picked seven wickets in the Group D fixture against Baroda in Ranji Trophy 2023-24.
Madhya Pradesh left-arm pacer Kulwant Khejroliya delivered a magical spell against Baroda in a Group D fixture of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24. Khejroliya picked up four wickets in four balls in the second innings against Baroda at Holkar Stadium in Indore. His spell also helped Madhya Pradesh win the game by an innings and 52 runs. Madhya Pradesh have also advanced to the next round.
The 31-year-old Kulwant Khejroliya has become only the third Indian bowler in First Class (FC) cricket to pick four wickets in four consecutive deliveries. Shankar Saini and Mohammed Mudassir are the two other Indian bowlers to achieve this rare feat in FC cricket. Khejroliya’s spell played a defining role in the game when Baroda were heading towards a decent total in the second innings.

In the 95th over, Khejroliya dismissed Shaswat Rawat (105) with an in-swinging delivery and rattled his off-stump. In the next ball, Mahesh Pithiya was caught at slip by Rishabh Chouhan off Khejroliya. Khejroliya completed his hat-trick after sending back Bhargav Bhatt to the pavilion.
Baroda were heading towards a decent total in the second innings when Kulwant Khejroliya came with Shashwat Rawat (105) crossing the figure mark. In the 95th over, Kulwant dismissed Shashwat with an inswing delivery and rattled his off-stump. In the next ball, Mahesh Pithiya was caught at slip by Rishabh Chouhan. Khejroliya completed his hattrick after sending Bhargav Bhatt back to the pavilion.
Kulwant Khejroliya completed the record double hat-trick after dismissing Akash Singh. This was the most satisfying wicket for Khejroliya as he sent Akash’s off-stump for a cartwheel. Khejroliya became only the third bowler from Madhya Pradesh (MP) to register a hat-trick in FC cricket. Hiralal Gaikwad was the first MP bowler to pick a hat-trick, he achieved it in Ranji Trophy 1961. Ravi Yadav was the second MP bowler to take hat-trick, which came in 2019.
Madhya Pradesh scored 454 runs in the first innings after a magnificent century from opener Himanshu Mantri. Mantri scored 111 runs in 183 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. Saransh Jain (70) and captain Shubham Sharma (61) also played a decent knocks for MP. Baroda were dismissed for just 132 runs in the first innings. In the second innings, MP, riding back on Kulwant Khejroliya’s spell, bowled out Baroda for 270 and won the game by an innings and 52 runs.
