During India’s tour of England 2021, the second test of the series took place at the Lord’s. While Joe Root was the captain of England in the test series, Virat Kohli was the skipper of India. The encounter is known as one of the most heated clashes between India and England.

England won the toss and opted to field first in the encounter. In the first innings, India piled up 364/10 with a half-century by Rohit Sharma (83) and a century by KL Rahul (129). James Anderson clinched a five-wicket haul for England.

England then posted 391/10 in the first innings, with a stunning unbeaten 180 runs by skipper Root. Jonny Bairstow scored a half-century and England earned a 27-run lead. Mohammed Siraj hunted four wickets for the visitors in the first innings.

In the second innings, India’s key batters failed to go big, except for Ajinkya Rahane, who hit a half-century. Towards the end, pacers Mohammed Shami (56*) scored an unbeaten half-century while Jasprit Bumrah added 34 runs to take the scoreboard to 298/8 d. They etched an 89-run stand for the ninth wicket.

India then set a 272-run target for England in the game. However, they had just 60 overs to bowl them out on day 5. Ahead of the start of the innings, the then India captain Kohli told his teammates, “For 60 overs, they should feel like hell out there.” This became one of the popular events from the match.

England succumbed to India’s pace attack, getting all out for just 120 runs and losing the match by 151 runs. Jasprit Bumrah picked three wickets while Mohammed Siraj picked four more wickets in the second innings to power India to a thrilling victory. While multiple Indian players impressed with their performance in the match, KL Rahul was awarded Player of the Match for his century in the first innings.
