Both India and Australia are unbeaten in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 so far.
India and Australia will face off in the semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on March 4 in Dubai.
Both teams are unbeaten in the tournament so far – while India defeated Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand in the group stage, Australia beat England before their matches against South Africa and Afghanistan were washed out due to rain.
The Dubai wicket has favored spinners so far, and India are expected to make no changes in their playing XI and play four spinners. Australia, on the other hand, will have to find a replacement for Matthew Short, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a quad injury.
When was the last time India defeated Australia in a knockout match at ICC events?
India’s last victory against Australia in a knockout match of an ICC event came 14 years ago in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 quarter-finals in Ahmedabad.
Batting first, Australia got off to a solid start with 110/1 in 22 overs. Brad Haddin and Ricky Ponting led the Aussies with contributions of 53 and 104, laying the foundation for a competitive first-innings score.
David Hussey then applied the finishing touch with 38 off 26 balls, propelling the Aussies to 260/6 in the first innings. Ravi Ashwin, Zaheer Khan, and Yuvraj Singh picked up two wickets each for India.
In reply, Australia continued to take wickets at regular intervals to reduce India to 187/5 after 37.3 overs Suresh Raina then joined Yuvraj Singh to stitch an unbeaten 74 run partnership to win the game for India.
Yuvraj was named Player of the Match for his 57-run knock and two wickets. Sachin Tendulkar (53) and Suresh Raina (34*) also made valuable contributions with the bat.
The victory took India to the semi-finals, where they defeated Pakistan by 29 runs before securing a six-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in the final to lift their second 50-over World Cup.
Since then, India have faced Australia twice in the knockout stage of ICC events – the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 – but lost on both occasions.
