SCG has hosted the second-most test matches among Australian stadiums.

The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in Sydney is one of the most iconic cricket venues in the world. Unlike Brisbane and Perth, which are renowned for their fast-paced pitches, Sydney is known for its batting-friendly conditions that assist spinners as the game goes on.

The SCG has hosted several iconic matches, including the semi-finals of the 1992 and 2015 ICC Cricket World Cups. The ground has a seating capacity of over 48,000 and is located in the heart of Sydney.

Australia have been dominant at the venue, having played 121 tests, with 61 wins, 28 losses, and 23 draws. The stadium has also been the home ground for some of Australia’s greatest cricketers, including Sir Don Bradman, Steve Smith, David Warner, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Michael Clarke, among others.

Despite their strong record, Australia have experienced a few remarkable defeats at the venue. In this article, we will look back at the last time they lost a test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Australia’s last defeat in a test match in Sydney came in January 2011 during the Ashes 2010/11.

Batting first, Australia were bowled out for 280 runs in their first innings with James Anderson leading the charge for England with figures of 4/66.

In reply, Alastair Cook’s 189-run knock, along with centuries from Ian Bell (115) and Matt Prior (118), guided England to a massive total of 644. Bell and Prior also stitched a crucial 107-run partnership for the sixth wicket, putting the visitors in a strong position.

Facing a 364-run deficit, the hosts were bowled out for 281, handing England a victory by an innings and 83 runs. Alastair Cook was named Player of the Match for his excellent century.

The victory allowed England to clinch the Ashes 3-1. The 2010/11 series was the last time Australia lost the Ashes at home.
