The eighth match of IPL 2025, CSK vs RCB, will be played on March 28.

The Southern Derby of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take place on Friday, March 28, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The clash promises to bring back retro T20 cricket amid a record-breaking high-scoring IPL season. The Chennai pitch provided assistance for spin in CSK’s first game of the season against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians.

If the conditions remain same, fans will be eager to see how senior RCB batsmen like Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar handle CSK’s spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmad.

Overall, CSK have dominated RCB with 21 wins in 33 matches. However, an unforgettable chapter was added to the rivalry on May 18, 2024, when the two teams last met in Bengaluru.

What happened when last time CSK vs RCB clash took place in the IPL?

The last time CSK and RCB faced each other was in the 68th match of IPL 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB needed to win by 17 or more runs to qualify for the playoffs.

Sent to bat first, RCB were guided by excellent top-order contributions from Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Rajat Patidar, all of whom scored over 40 runs. Du Plessis held one end, scoring 54 off 39 balls to lay the foundation for a mammoth total.

Dinesh Karthik and Glenn Maxwell provided the finishing touch to the innings, with both scoring 14 runs off six and five balls respectively, to propel the team to a challenging total of 218.

To qualify, CSK needed to score at least 201 runs. The five-time winners, burdened by the challenge and the pressure of RCB’s home crowd, started poorly, losing their first two wickets for just 19 runs. Rachin Ravindra (61) and Ajinkya Rahane (33) stabilized the innings with a 66-run partnership for the third wicket.

In the final over, the visitors needed 17 runs to qualify, with MS Dhoni on strike against Yash Dayal. Dhoni sent the first ball out of the stadium but was deceived by a slower delivery on the next. The left-arm pacer kept his composure to seal a 27-run victory for RCB, securing their place in the playoffs.

RCB ultimately lost to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator to bow out of IPL 2024.
