India have lost one and won three day-night test matches so far.
The Indian cricket team have taken an early lead in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 with a bumper victory in Perth by 295 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli played starring roles in the victory, while KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy also made significant impact on the match.
Bumrah bagged the Player of the Match award for his eight wickets for only 72 runs, which has pushed his bowling average down to only 20.06. Bumrah led the team exceptionally well in Rohit Sharma’s absence.
Rohit will be back for the second test and India would be hoping that Shubman Gill also recovers from his thumb injury to feature in Adelaide.
The second BGT 2024-25 test match will be played from December 6 in Adelaide. This will be a day-night test match that will be played with a pink ball.
While India have a good record in pink-ball tests, with three wins and one loss, their last memory of such a encounter against Australia in Adelaide is horrific.
What happened the last time India played a day-night test match against Australia?
The last time India and Australia met in a day-night test match was in Adelaide in the 2020/21 tour. Australia won that match by eight wickets after bowling India out for only 36 runs in their second innings. This is India’s lowest total in their test cricket history.
Josh Hazlewood ripped India’s innings with sensational bowling figures of 5-3-8-5. None of the Indian batsmen managed to reach double figures in that innings.
However, India bounced back in a spectacular fashion to win the series 2-1, breaching Australia’s fortress Gabba on the last day of the series.
With India having a 1-0 lead in the ongoing series, the visitors will look to put to bed the ghosts of the 36 all-out in the upcoming match in Adelaide.
