What happened when last time India hosted England for an ODI at the Barabati Stadium, Cuttack?

The second ODI between India and England will be played in Cuttack on Sunday.

England have continued to suffer defeats on their ongoing white-ball tour to India as they lost the first ODI of the three-match series on Thursday after going down by 1-4 in the T20I series.

In the first ODI in Nagpur, India dominated the visitors with both bat and ball. England did have a couple periods of play where they were on top but they failed to capitalise.

England got a rapid start from Phil Salt and Ben Duckett, but then lost three quick wickets. Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell hit sedate fifties, but both got out after reaching their milestones. Eventually, England ended with 248 runs. For India, Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Harshit Rana took three wickets each.

In the chase, England started strongly again by dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma early on, but Shreyas Iyer’s counter-attacking innings put a spanner in their works. Even as Iyer got out, Axar Patel carried on with the attacking momentum, while Shubman Gill played the anchor role and held his end.

Eventually, India reached the target with 11.2 overs to spare and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

The second ODI will be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Sunday. This is not the first time that India will face England in an ODI match in Cuttack.

Overall, India and England have met five times in an ODI at the Barabati Stadium. Of these, India won three and England won two.

After posting 381 runs on the board, India won the match by only 15 runs, overcoming a century from Eoin Morgan.

England won the toss and chose to bowl first. India lost their top three, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, for only 25 runs but then Dhoni and Yuvraj posted a mammoth partnership of 256 runs. India got a finishing kick from Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. Yuvraj scored 150 (127) and Dhoni scored 134 (122) as India finished with 381 runs on the board.

England went along with the required run-rate in the chase, with Jason Roy, Joe Root, and Moeen Ali cracking fifties, while Morgan blasted 102 runs off 81 balls. However, the Indian pacers kept their cool in the death overs and India escaped with a 15-run victory.
