What happened last time when India played in an ICC Champions Trophy final?

India will play their fifth ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on March 9.
The final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be played between India and New Zealand on Sunday, March 9 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS), Dubai.
India come into the contest on the back of a four-wicket win against Australia in the first semi-final. Chasing a tricky 265-run target, the Men in Blue were led by Virat Kohli, who starred with 84 runs off 98 balls.
Earlier, they had defeated Pakistan, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in the group stage and have maintained a perfect record in the ongoing tournament. They will expect their four-man spin attack to do their magic and help them become the only team to win the Champions Trophy title thrice.
New Zealand, on the other hand, defeated South Africa in the second semi-final by 50 runs to make it to the final. Their strength lies in their in-form batting order, including Rachin Ravindra, Kane Williamson, and Tom Latham. The Kiwis’ only loss in the tournament came against India in the final group stage contest in Dubai.
This will be New Zealand’s third ICC Champions Trophy final, while India will be playing their fifth final in the tournament’s history. Notably, India and New Zealand faced each other in the final of 2000 edition. India then qualified for the finals in 2002, 2013 and 2017 editions.
On that note, let’s take a look at what happened last time when India played ICC Champions Trophy final.
