The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was inaugurated in 2021.

India secured a four-wicket win in the second ODI of England‘s tour of India 2025 in Cuttack, to seal the three-match series with a 2-0 lead.

India have dominated England in all three departments so far. In the first game in Nagpur, debutant Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets each to bowl out the visitors for 248 runs.

After losing the openers early, Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill, and Axar Patel scored half-centuries to guide the hosts to a four-wicket win.

The second game in Cuttack was all about Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s return to form. After a tough few months in test cricket, he scored his 32nd ODI century to help India seal the series.

The Men in Blue will now face England in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on February 12. This match gives the hosts a chance to try out players like Arshdeep Singh and Rishabh Pant, who haven’t played yet in the series.

On that note, let’s take a look at what happened the last time India played an ODI match in Ahmedabad.

What happened last time India played an ODI cricket match at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad?

India’s last ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, was the ICC World Cup 2023 final against Australia in November 2023, which India lost.

India reached the final after winning 10 games in a row, including a dominant win over New Zealand in the semi-final in Mumbai. However, the final turned out to be a heartbreak for the Indian fans and will be remembered for years.

Batting first, India got off to a strong start and finished the powerplay at 76/2, with Rohit Sharma (47) leading the charge. However, Australia fought back with disciplined bowling in the middle overs.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood took seven wickets combined to restrict India to 240 runs. KL Rahul was the top scorer for the hosts with 66 off 107 balls, but his low strike rate became a talking point after the match. Virat Kohli also hit a fifty but failed to convert it into a big score.

In the chase, Australia had a shaky start and stumbled to 47/3, losing David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith early. However, Travis Head took control of the proceeding and stitched a 192-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne for the fourth wicket.

Head scored 137 runs off 120 balls, hitting 15 fours and four sixes. He was named Player of the Final as Australia won their sixth ODI World Cup title.
