India will take on Australia in the first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on March 4.
The first semi-final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will take place between India and Australia on March 4 in Dubai.
India are coming to this game as the table-toppers of Group A of the tournament, having won all three of their group stage matches against Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand.
Australia, on the other hand, recorded a five-wicket victory against England in their opening game before their games against South Africa and Afghanistan got washed out due to rain.
India have fully leveraged the advantage of playing all their games at a single venue and have restricted teams with their strong spin attack. Australia will have to make a selection call on whether to include a second frontline spinner, Tanveer Sangha, in place of one of the fast bowlers.
What happened when last time India faced Australia in an ODI?
India and Australia have faced off 151 times in ODI cricket. Australia have dominated the rivalry with 84 wins, while India have won 57 contests. Ten ODIs between the two teams have ended with no result.
The last time India played Australia in an ODI was during the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. The game turned out to be a heartbreak for the Indian fans and will be remembered for years.
After being asked to bat first, India got off to a strong start and finished the powerplay at 76/2, with Rohit Sharma (47) leading the charge. However, Australia fought back with economical bowling in the middle overs.
Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood took seven wickets combined to restrict India to 240 runs. KL Rahul was the top scorer for India with 66 off 107 balls, but his low strike rate became a talking point after the match.
In the chase, Australia got off to a shaky start and slipped to 47/3, losing experienced David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Steve Smith early. However, Travis Head took control of the proceeding and stitched a 192-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne for the fourth wicket.
The southpaw scored 137 runs off 120 balls, including 15 fours and four sixes. He was named Player of the Final as Australia won their sixth ODI World Cup title.
