The England Cricket Team made one change to their playing XI for the fourth test against the Indian Cricket Team. The hosts added spinner Liam Dawson to their playing XI as Shoaib Bashir’s replacement, who got injured in the last game.
The encounter commenced on July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester. Dawson, who is a left-arm orthodox spinner, has played six tests, picking seven wickets in five innings at an average of 42.57. With the bat, he has scored 84 runs, including a half-century.

Notably, Dawson last played a test match against South Africa in July 2017. He has returned to England’s test XI after more than eight years, which makes it after 2927 days.
The 35-year-old was included in the squad for the fourth test after his impressive performance in the County Championship 2025. Dawson has also played six ODIs and 14 T20Is for England, picking five and 11 wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss in the fourth test and opted to bowl first. Indian skipper Shubman Gill revealed that they have made three changes to their playing XI. Sai Sudharsan has replaced Karun Nair in the playing XI. Shardul Thakur and Anshul Kamboj have been added to the playing XI in place of injured Nitish Kumar Reddy and Akash Deep.
Earlier, pacers Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep were ruled out of the fourth test due to respective injuries. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of remainder of the series with a knee injury. Meanwhile, the Manchester test is a must-win game for India. They trail 2-1 in the five-match series and need this win to keep their hopes of series win alive.
