Bashir, who sustained a finger injury in the third test at the Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, has been ruled out of the last two test matches against India. Dawson has been picked on the back of his impressive performance in the County Championship 2025, where he plays for Hampshire.

Liam Dawson has played three tests for England so far. The left-arm orthodox spinner has picked seven wickets in five innings at an average of 42.57. He has also scored 84 runs across six innings, including a half-century.

Notably, Dawson played his last test match for England in July 2017 against South Africa. Hence, he has made a comeback to the England test squad after eight years, which makes it more than 2920 days

The 35-year-old spinner made his test debut against India in December 2016. However, he could not cement his place in the test team and lost his spot after six games. Dawson has also featured in six ODIs and 14 T20Is, where he has captured five and 11 wickets respectively.

Meanwhile, the fourth test between England and INdia will be played at the Old Trafford, Manchester from July 23. England lead the five-match test series 2-1. They won the recently-concluded third test at the Lord’s by 22 runs.

England started the series on a winning note by defeating the visitors by five wickets at Headingley, Leeds before losing the second game of the series at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The five-match test series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 will conclude with the fifth test, which will start on July 31 at the Oval, London.
