Team India will be taking on Sri Lanka at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on November 2. Team India have won all their league encounters in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 so far, and they have three more games left to play. A win against Sri Lanka will officially secure India’s place in the semi-finals with 14 points in their seven league games. India will also remember the 2011 World Cup finals played against Sri Lanka at Wankhede, where India went on to win the title.

Apart from the second World Cup title win, this ground is remembered for a great farewell to one of India’s greatest players, Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin Tendulkar began his career at the same ground, and he ended his glorious, more than 25-years-long cricket career at Wankhede. To celebrate Sachin Tendulkar’s success on the cricket field and at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai Cricket Association will be unveiling a life-size statue of Sachin Tendulkar.

Maharashtra CM to be present during the event

The statue has been installed near Sachin Tendulkar stand at the Wankhede Stadium, where the final touches are being given before India’s scheduled clash against Sri Lanka on Thursday. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the distinguished guests during the event that will celebrate the 50 years of Sachin Tendulakar’s life. Sachin Tendulkar turned 50 in April this year.

Wankhede Stadium has been one of the most special venues for the master blaster in his career. Sachin Tendulkar won his first-ever World Cup tournament at this venue in 2011 after defeating Sri Lanka. He also played his final international game at this venue against West Indies. His farewell speech at the Wankhede Stadium also made millions of people emotional when he said goodbye to international cricket in 2013 after playing 664 international matches.

Sachin Tendulkar is the leading run-scorer at Wankhede Stadium in the ODI format. Sachin played 11 ODIs, scored 455 runs at an average of 41.36, and smashed a century at this venue. He is the second-leading run scorer in test cricket, with 921 runs in 19 innings. Sunil Gavaskar is the leading run-scorer at this venue in test cricket, with 1122 runs in 20 innings. Team India have won 11 ODIs out of the 20 they have played at this venue in Mumbai.
