All-rounders in IPL or T20 cricket are a massive luxury as they balance the side significantly. Due to their game-changing prowess, all-rounders hold numerous records in the format, making them indispensable to the team's success.
The IPL hasn't been any different in that regard as every franchise looks forward to having a gun all-rounder, capable of winning matches out of nowhere. The latest IPL auction also saw high demand for all-rounders. Speaking of records, only a few players hold the record for double of 2000 plus runs and taking over 50 wickets.
We take a look at the list of players who have accomplished that feat:
6) Hardik Pandya:
Gujarat Titans' skipper Hardik Pandya is one of the most accomplished all-rounders in IPL history. The 29-year-old started his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians and played an integral role in their three title victories since then.
The Baroda-born cricketer is the latest entrant in the list as he completed 2000 runs against the Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 16th April, 2023. He also has 69 scalps from 87 IPL fixtures and has won a trophy as captain.
5) Andre Russell
Andre Russell is arguably one of the most destructive all-rounders and has been a mainstay for the Kolkata Knight Riders since joining the franchise in 2014. The Jamaican won the Most Valuable Player of the Year award twice and is one of the two players to do so.
Russell achieved the feat at the age of 34 and has accumulated 2218 runs in 103 IPL games alongside 92 scalps at 24.11. The veteran all-rounder has had a mixed start to IPL 2023, starting with a brisk 35 against the Punjab Kings, but is likely to explode at some point in the tournament.
4) Jacques Kallis
Former South African all-rounder Jacques Kallis has plied his trade for multiple franchises in IPL history. Although Kallis started with the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the title success came with the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012.
The 2012 final against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) saw the star all-rounder score 69 off 49 deliveries to help his side chase down 190 despite early loss of wickets. Kallis has amassed 2293 runs in 98 matches and has snared 65 scalps.
3) Ravindra Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja has established himself as the premier all-rounder for India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Spotted first by Shane Warne, the Saurashtra all-rounder was groomed by the legendary wrist-spinner during his stint with the Rajasthan Royals.
Fast forward to the present, the 34-year-old is a bonafide game changer and is one of the fittest cricketers in the world. Jadeja is also an outstanding fielder, capable of cojuring match-turning run-outs and catches. He has accumulated 2531 runs in 214 IPL matches alongside 138 scalps.
2) Kieron Pollard
Former West Indian white-ball skipper Kieron Pollard started and ended his career with the Mumbai Indians, having joined it in 2010. He was one of the most significant match-winners for the franchise and played an instrumental role in their dominance in the IPL.
The Trinidadian's role was especially critical during the 2013 final. His unbeaten 60 in the final propelled the Mumbai Indians to a match-winning total of 148 as they beat the Super Kings by 23 runs to lift the trophy. The veteran has amassed 3412 runs in 189 games and has managed 69 scalps.
1) Shane Watson
Shane Watson is the most quintessential all-round cricketer to play in the IPL. The Queenslander starred in Rajasthan Royals' title victory in the first season and bagged the Player of the Tournament award. He had scored 472 runs and racked up 17 scalps.
Although he flopped for RCB, the former Royals skipper shone in Super Kings' third IPL crown victory in 2018 with a fiery hundred in the final. In 145 IPL games, Watson has 3874 runs alongside 92 wickets
