Lord's set to lose INR 45 crores after India fail to qualify for ICC WTC 2023-25 final -Reports

India failed to qualify for third straight ICC WTC final.
India made history by winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, overtaking Australia to become the team with the most ICC Champions Trophy titles, with a total of three.
However, their journey in test cricket over the past few months has been far from ideal. Once in pole position to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final, the Asian giants were whitewashed by New Zealand in a home test series (0-3) before suffering 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.
Six defeats in their last eight test games of the cycle saw India finish third in the WTC 2023-25 standings and miss out on the final scheduled from June 11-15 at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Australia and South Africa will now face off for the title. Australia will aim to make history as the first team to win two WTC titles, while the Proteas will seek their first ICC trophy since the 1998 Knockout Trophy
A recent report has now revealed an interesting insight into the revenue loss that the Lord’s is facing due to India’s early elimination.
Lord’s set to lose INR 45 crores after India fail to qualify for ICC WTC 2023-25 final – Reports
According to a report in The Times, Lord’s is set to lose 4 million pounds (approximately INR 45 crores) in revenue due to India’s failure to qualify for the ICC WTC 2023-25 final.
The report stated that organizers had initially set ticket prices at a premium, anticipating high demand from Indian fans. However, India’s absence has significantly reduced the financial windfall expected by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Expecting India’s qualification, Lord’s initially set ticket prices at premium rates. The members were confident that demand from Indian cricket fans would exceed supply. However, once India failed to reach the final, MCC opted to reduce ticket prices.
“The decision to be flexible with prices for the World Test Championship final was taken this year, with tickets now being sold at between £40 and £90—about £50 cheaper than they had originally been priced, accounting for the loss in revenue.” the Times reported
