Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul amassed 274 runs in nine matches of the IPL 2023 season.

Star Indian batter KL Rahul, who missed the last three matches against England in the ongoing five-match test series due to a quadriceps injury for which he underwent surgery last year, is now aiming to get fit for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, according to a report.

Middle-order batter KL Rahul missed a significant portion of the India vs England test series due to a quadriceps injury. The right-handed batter could only play the first match in Hyderabad where he notched up 86 and 22 runs in both innings.

He complained of pain in his right quadriceps and was ruled out of the second test. There were initial hopes for a quick comeback. He was named in the squad for the remaining tests, subject to fitness clearance. Despite being “90% fit,” according to BCCI reports, Rahul didn’t play in the third test at Rajkot and the fourth test at Ranchi due to persistent stiffness in his leg.

With the series win secured by India, Rahul then went to the United Kingdom for specialist consultation on his quadriceps injury. This indicated the issue was more serious than initially thought. Ultimately, KL Rahul was ruled out of the final test at Dharamshala due to his ongoing recovery.

KL Rahul aims for IPL 2024 comeback after injury setback

KL Rahul is the skipper of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who will play their opening match in IPL 2024 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Jaipur on March 24. According to a report, KL Rahul is aiming for an IPL 2024 comeback and his target is to perform well in the cash-rich league. His main target is to make a comeback to the Indian side in the ICC T20 World Cup, which will be held in June in West Indies and the United States of America (USA). It is to be noted that KL Rahul last played a T20I game back in November 2022 and since then he has been out of the Indian squad in the shortest format.

“He had consulted top medical experts in London. He returned to India on Sunday and has checked into the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for rehab. He should get the “Return to Play” certificate from the NCA soon. He is keen to prove his worth in the IPL as he’s in line for selection in India’s T20 World Cup team as a ‘keeper-bat,” a source told TOI.

The Karnataka batter’s last T20I game was the T20 World Cup semi-final against England, where India lost the by 10 wickets. However, since then he has not been considered. But, a great IPL 2024 with the bat for the Lucknow Super Giants could change things for KL Rahul.
