LSG set to part ways with mentor Zaheer Khan ahead of IPL 2026 - Reports

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are set to part ways with mentor Zaheer Khan ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. According to a report in the Times of India, the franchise will find a new mentor for the next season, who will have more responsibilities to manage LSG’s other franchises as well.
The reports also suggests that the LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka is looking forward to appointing a Director of Cricket, who will manage operations of all LSG franchises in the various T20 leagues throughout the year. LSG own Manchester Originals team in England’s The Hundred and Durban Super Giants in SA20.
Recently, LSG appointed Bharat Arun as their new bowling coach for IPL 2026. Arun, a former bowling coach of Indian Cricket Team, held the same role with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last season. However, he parted ways with the KKR ahead of IPL 2026.

Zaheer was appointed as the mentor of LSG ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction and was awarded a one-year contract. However, the team didn’t have a great season as they failed to qualify for the playoffs.
“LSG are set to part ways with Zaheer Khan and the new mentor will be given a bigger role to monitor RPSG Group’s other franchises,” a source was quoted as TOI as saying.
Notably, Rishabh Pant was named as LSG’s new skipper before IPL 2025. Zaheer and Pant set a fearless style of cricket for the team in the tournament, however, the approach was not successful. Pant struggled with his captaincy and batting throughout the season.
With six wins and eight defeats across 14 games, the Super Giants finished at the seventh spot in the points table with 12 points.
LSG made their debut in the IPL in 2022 and were led by KL Rahul till the 2024 season. They reached the playoffs in the first two editions in 2022 and 2023.
