Maheesh Theekshana doubtful for the big Asia Cup 2023 final against India

Maheesh Theekshana might not play in the finals of Asia Cup 2023.

Sri Lankan off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana remains doubtful for the big Asia Cup 2023 finals on Monday. The finals will be played at the R. Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo between host Sri Lanka and India. Maheesh Theekshana suffered a hamstring strain against Pakistan on Thursday. Theekshana underwent scans, and Sri Lankan camp is waiting for the reports to make a finals call on the player before the big game. Theekshana suffered a strain on his right hamstring while fielding against Pakistan super four round clash.

Maheesh Theekshana doubtful for the final

Sri Lanka Cricket Board put out an official statement on the player's injury. Sri Lanka Cricket Board's official statement reads, "Maheesh Theekshana got hurt while fielding in the Sri Lanka vs Pakistan game. To examine the player’s condition, a scan will be performed tomorrow." Theekshana had to leave the field multiple times while Sri Lanka were bowling. He went off several times for treatment of his injury. Theekshana’s not playing in finals against India will be an extra advantage for the team, as Sri Lanka are expected to attack the men in blue with their frontline spinners.

Off-spinner Maheesh Theekshana bowled nine-overs against Pakistan in multiple spells. Theekshana did look to have good control in bowling and picked up Mohammad Nawaz’s wicket. Theekshana castled Nawaz on a 130-runs score for the 5th wicket. After this wicket, Pakistan built up a great partnership between Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan. Theekshana didn’t come out to bat as Sri Lanka lost eight wickets in their chase. Charith Asalanka and Matheesha Pathirana halted the game for their team in the final delivery.

Sri Lanka have suffered a massive injury outbreak, as before the start of the tournament, big names like Dushmanth Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, and Aviska Fernando were ruled out of Asia Cup. With Maheesh Theeskshana’s injury just before ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, Sri Lanka will be a little more worried. Sri Lanka waited until the last day to announce their Asia Cup 2023 squad as they were waiting for the fitness reports of many players suffering injuries.
