Speculation surrounding MS Dhoni and his Indian Premier League (IPL) future has intensified ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Chepauk Stadium.
The SRH fixture is CSK’s final home game of IPL 2026, leading to fresh discussions regarding whether the former India captain could make his last appearance at Chepauk. Although, there has been no official confirmation related to same, the rumours have taken internet by storm, especially with Suresh Raina and other former CSK stars set to be there at Chepauk stadium.
CSK‘s campaign has also added to the speculation after the franchise failed to remain consistent during the league stage. Injury concerns and Dhoni’s limited appearances this season further increased uncertainty regarding his role beyond IPL 2026.
MS Dhoni likely to play IPL 2027 – Reports

According to the reports by Rohit Juglan of Revsportz, there are chances that MS Dhoni won’t be retiring after CSK vs SRH clash tonight, and might also feature in IPL 2027.
The report also stated that Dhoni is expected to come to the stadium for the match, but his chances of playing are currently very low because of a thumb injury.
Also, Ravichandran Ashwin dropped a massive hint on Dhoni. He also mentioned that Dhoni’s retirement might not happen today and chances are there that it might take place in 2027.
As of now, neither MS Dhoni nor CSK have made any official statement regarding retirement from the IPL or his availability for the SRH match.
Dhoni was seen attending CSK’s training session before the SRH fixture and also spent time batting in the nets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium earlier this week. However, the final decision regarding his participation is expected only at the toss when CSK announce their playing XI.
