Who is Manav Suthar? All you need to know about Indian cricket's new all-round sensation

Manav Suthar took a seven-wicket haul in Duleep Trophy 2024 match for India C against India D.

India’s latest spin sensation Manav Suthar is rising quickly and making a name for himself among the Indian cricket fraternity.

Currently, the 22-year-old spinner is playing the Duleep Trophy 2024 for India C and has caught the attention of everyone by taking a seven-wicket haul against India D. After his achievement, cricket pundits touted Suthar as one of India’s promising spinners for the future.

Who is Manav Suthar?

Manav Suthar was born on August 3, 2002, in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan. The 22-year-old made his First-Class debut for Rajasthan in 2022. The left-arm spinner played his maiden List A match for India A against UAE in Colombo on July 2023.

Suthar has played 15 DC matches so far, taking 73 wickets at an average of 22.90. In List A cricket, the youngster has featured in eight outings, taking 15 wickets.

Manav Suthar was part of Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024

The Rajasthan-born cricketer Manav was part of the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2024. The left-arm spinner was picked by the IPL 2022 champions for INR 20 lakhs. Suthar made his IPL debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 4, 2024. The 22-year-old made one run with the bat and conceded 26 runs with the ball.

Manav Suthar is a huge fan of Ravichandran Ashwin

During an interview with ESPNcricinfo, the youngster revealed that he is a huge fan of veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. Suthar considers Ashwin a ‘perfect idol’ for him.

“His bowling, variations, how he responds with some kind of variation for all kinds of surfaces, the way he uses the crease – for me, it’s like he’s the perfect idol,” Manav said.

“When I hadn’t started playing, I wanted to be like Yuvraj [Singh]. Even now, he’s my all-time favourite, but as a bowler, I love Ashwin bhaiyya,” Suthar added.

The rise of Manav Suthar

Last year, Suthar picked up 10 wickets at an average of 19.50 for India A at the Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. After that, the spinner also toured South Africa with India A.

Earlier this year, the 22-year-old played for India A against the England Lions in Ahmedabad, where he showcased his skills and talent.

His latest impressive performance came on his Duleep Trophy debut where he put on a stunning exhibition of spin-bowling. The left-arm spinner took 7/59 in India D’s second innings. Suthar also played a crucial knock of unbeaten 19 runs to help India C clinch the match by four wickets.
