Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, February 17.

In an emotional message shared on his official social handles, veteran Indian and Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from all formats of the game on Friday, February 17.

The Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwary’s decision to retire comes after a long and glorious career that spanned over a decade in the Indian domestic circuit.

However, the Indian cricketer had previously announced his retirement on August 20, 2023, and shortly thereafter he reversed his decision.

In a press conference held at the Eden Gardens last year, Manoj Tiwary decided to reverse his retirement decision. He gave the explanation that he wants to give ‘one more try’ to win the prestigious Ranji Trophy for the Bengal cricket team. Tiwary also added that the retirement decision by him was a sudden one.

However, Tiwary-led Bengal came close to winning the elusive Ranji Trophy title. In the 2022–23 season’s final, Manoj Tiwary-led Bengal were favorites to win the final at home, but Saurasthra crushed Tiwary’s title dream as they hammered Bengal by nine wickets.

“The decision taken by me was a sudden one. I was selfish in taking this decision as this might have hurt my family, teammates and fans,” Manoj Tiwary said in a press conference held last year at the Media Center of Eden Gardens.

In his latest social media post on his official ‘X’ handle (formerly known as Twitter), the Bengal cricketer expressed his gratitude and thanked his supporters for their love throughout his illustrious career.

Tiwary posted, “Hi all, So… It’s time for the one last dance! Possibly one last time for a long walk towards my beloved 22 yards. I will miss every bit of it! 🏏 Thanks for cheering and loving me all these years. Would be loving it if you all come down to my favourite #EdenGardens today and tomorrow to cheer for Bengal. 🫡🙌 – A loyal servant of cricket, your Manoj Tiwary ❤️,” Manoj Tiwary wrote on his social media.

The Bengal cricketer has smashed over 10,000 runs in First Class (FC) cricket at a stunning average of nearly 48. Tiwary has also smashed 30 centuries and 45 half-centuries in FC cricket. Manoj Tiwary was a great servant of Bengal cricket. Tiwary represented India in 12 ODIs and three T20Is. He managed to score 287 runs in ODIs with a hundred and a fifty. He also scalped five wickets in ODIs. While in T20Is, he managed only 15 runs in one innings.

Meanwhile, the Bengal player has represented several teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which includes the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Currently, the Indian cricketer serves as the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports in the government of West Bengal.
