"He is a hypocrite.." Manoj Tiwary fires shots at Gautam Gambhir, alleges his PR credited him for KKR's success in the IPL

October brought more disappointment for Team India as the Asian giants suffered their first-ever whitewash in a home series of more than two tests against New Zealand. India then travelled to Australia only to lose the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) for the first time 10 years.

India’s recent poor form has sparked a debate on whether Gambhir should continue as the red-ball coach of the side. While several former cricketers have expressed confidence in the former opener’s abilities, others have questioned his team selection, calling it too inconsistent.

Now, former India batsman Manoj Tiwary has shared his thoughts on the Indian coach. Tiwary has raised concerns about Gambhir’s PR tactics in taking credit for Kolkata Knight Riders‘ success in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Tiwary even went as far as calling Gambhir a “hypocrite.”

Speaking to News18 Bangla, former India batsman Manoj Tiwary claimed that KKR’s success in 2012 was a team effort, with contributions from him, Sunil Narine, and Jacques Kallis, but Gambhir ended up taking all the credit.

Manoj said, “Gambhir didn’t guide KKR to the title single-handedly as we all performed as a unit, Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine and I, all contributed to the cause. But who took the credit? There is an environment and PR that allows him to take all the credit.“

Tiwary went on to call Gambhir a ‘hypocrite’ and alleged that the coaching staff selected by the 43-year-old for the Indian team were chosen merely to agree with him.

He continued, “Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite. He doesn’t do what he says. The captain (Rohit) is from Mumbai, Abhishek Nayar is from Mumbai. Rohit has been pushed to the forefront. There is no one to speak for Jalaj Saxena. He performs well but keeps quiet.“

“What is the use of a bowling coach? Whatever the coach says, he will agree. Morne Morkel came from Lucknow Super Giants. Abhishek Nayar was at Kolkata Knight Riders with Gambhir and the Indian head coach knows that he will not go against his instructions.”
