Marcus Stoinis revealed that he looks forward to playing for Australia in ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

All-rounder Marcus Stoinis has said that he is looking forward to make a comeback in Australia T20I side after the ongoing The Hundred 2025. The all-rounder also revealed that he is still in contention for ICC T20 World Cup 2026 next year.

Notably, Australia did not pick Stoinis in their squad for the ongoing T20I series against South Africa and the recent T20I series against West Indies. The all-rounder does not hold a national or state contract with Cricket Australia (CA) as of now and has been following a freelancer’s contract.

For the last few years, Stoinis has been a crucial seam-bowling all-rounder for Australia in T20Is, the only format he is active in. In his absence, Australia has been investing in Mitchell Owen, who was part of the squad for the T20I series against West Indies and the ongoing South Africa series.

Stoinis is currently busy in England’s franchise T20 tournament “The Hundred 2025”, where he is part of Trent Rockets. During a chat with ESPNCricinfo, he revealed that he has no plans to retire from T20Is as of now.

The 35-year-old also added that he had a prior conversation with Australia head coach Andrew McDonald and Cricket Australia (CA) chief selector George Bailey about his participation in The Hundred 2025 and missing the T20I series against West Indies and South Africa.

“The nature of it is that you can’t select yourself in an Australian jersey, but you can sign a contract to come and play in the Hundred. When this opportunity came up, I spoke to Cricket Australia, I spoke to Ron [McDonald] and we made a plan around that, really, When you’re planning it in advance, that makes it easier,” he said.

“We are very lucky. We do it very well in Australia. The relationships that I’ve got with both Ron [McDonald] and Bails [George Bailey] means you just have those conversations pretty openly,” Stoinis added.

Hence, Stonis might return for Australia’s forthcoming T20I series against New Zealand and India. The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be played in India and Sri Lanka next year from February to March.

Meanwhile, Stoinis has played 74 T20Is for Australia, smacking 1245 runs in 61 innings at a strike rate of 148.56. At an economy of 8.72, he has scalped 45 wickets. He last played a T20I game for Australia in November 2024 against Pakistan.
