Australia have joined South Africa as the finalists of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. The final of the prestigious tournament is set to begin on June 11, 2025, at the Lord’s, London.

The Proteas currently sit at the top of the ICC WTC 2023-25 standings with 88 points in 11 matches, boasting PCT of 66.67%. Meanwhile, Australia are placed second with 130 points in 17 games with PCT of 63.73%.

South Africa confirmed their berth in the final of the tournament after back-to-back impressive test series victories against Bangladesh (away) and Sri Lanka (home), followed by a win in the first test against Pakistan in Centurion.

Australia, on the other hand, have been more consistent. They retained the Ashes in 2023 in England by drawing the series 2-2, followed by series win against Pakistan at home, away series victory against New Zealand before winning the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 at home.

Ahead of the ICC WTC 2023-25 final at London’s Lord’s, Australia are set to tour Sri Lanka for a two-match test series starting on January 29. The first test will be held from January 29 to February 2 at the Galle International Stadium, followed by the second test scheduled from February 6 to 10 at the same venue.

Despite confirming their place in the ICC WTC 2023-25 final, Australia will look to win a test series in Sri Lanka for the first time since 2011. Their last two test series in the Island Nation were not something they would like to remember as they lost 0-3 in 2016 and drew 1-1 in 2022.

South Africa, on the other hand, are playing their final test match before the ICC WTC 2023-25 final against Pakistan at Newlands Cricket Ground. The game is scheduled to end on January 7. The Proteas will then play the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 before facing Australia for the ultimate test glory.
