Matt Henry took a stunning catch of Jasprit Bumrah in the first IND vs NZ test in Bengaluru.

It was a horror show for the Indian Cricket Team in their first innings of the first test of the three-match series against New Zealand as they were bowled out for their third-lowest total in test cricket.

After losing the entire day due to rain, the first IND vs NZ test kicked off on Thursday in Bengaluru.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first on a moist Bengaluru wicket. The fans and critics alike expected the wicket to play a few tricks in the first session, but a monumental collapse was not on anyone’s radar.

By the time the game stopped again due to rain in the 13th over, the Indian top order had already collapsed to the score of 13/3. Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan were the first three batters to be dismissed in the short passage of play.

Things went from bad to worse for the Indian team as they were six down at the lunch break and then lost the remaining four wickets soon in the second session. The most remarkable moment on the field in the second session came when Jasprit Bumrah was dismissed by William ORourke with Matt Henry taking a terrific catch.

Following up a bouncer with another short-of-length delivery, William ORourke forced Bumrah to play an aerial pull shot. The ball took the leading edge off the bat and flew on the leg side, where Matt Henry came running from deep square leg. Henry, showcasing excellent athleticism, covered a fair amount of ground before taking a diving catch inches above the ground.

After a monumental failure with the bat, India face a daunting task of making a comeback in the game. Yashasvi Jaiswal (13) and Rishabh Pant (20) are the only two batters who reached the double-digit mark from the Indian side. India will be hoping for a strong bowling performance if they have to stage a dramatic comeback.

India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma(c), Virat Kohli, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant(w), KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
