Mehidy Hasan Miraz has led Bangladesh in three international matches so far.

Bangladesh have named all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the captain of their 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against West Indies. The ODI series between the two nations is scheduled to begin on December 8 and all three matches will be played at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.

Bangladesh’s decision to appoint Mehidy as captain has come due to the unavailability of regular skipper Najmul Shanto who is recovering from a groin injury. With many key players unavailable for selection the team management has been forced to make several changes in the squad.

Bangladesh Cricket Board’s official statement:

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed Miraz’s captaincy appointment with an official statement.

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury,” the BCB said.

BCB Sports physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury also explained Towhid Hridoy’s absence and his injury situation.

He said, “Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised to rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play.
