Mehidy Hasan Miraz has played 103 ODIs for Bangladesh so far.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Thursday, 13th February, announced that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will be the team’s vice-captain for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Bangladesh are placed in Group A alongside hosts Pakistan, India, and New Zealand. They will begin their campaign against India on February 20, followed by games against New Zealand on February 24 and Pakistan on February 27, both in Rawalpindi.

Bangladesh will leave for Dubai on January 13 to prepare for their tournament opener. They will aim for a better performance in the Champions Trophy after recent struggles in ICC events.

The Bangla Tigers finished eighth in the 2023 ODI World Cup and were knocked out in the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Mehidy will be the deputy to captain Najmul Hossain Shanto. He recently led Bangladesh in the West Indies in Shanto’s absence.

His captaincy experience in the Caribbean was a mixed one, as Bangladesh managed a 1-1 draw in the test series but were later whitewashed 3-0 in the ODI series.

The 27-year-old has represented Bangladesh across 51 tests, 103 ODIs, and 29 T20Is and has established himself as a key player in the squad. He played a crucial role in their 2-1 ODI series win against India in 2022.

The team will be without their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who was not picked as he is currently suspended from bowling due to an illegal action.
